Isolation of a Marine Bacterium and Application of Its Bioflocculant in Wastewater Treatment

Bioflocculation has become the method of choice in wastewater treatment because its effectiveness, environmental friendliness and innocuousness to humans. In this study, bioflocculant-producing bacterium was isolated bioflocculant used treatment. The isolate identified by 16S rRNA gene sequencing analysis. Its culture conditions (inoculum size, carbon nitrogen sources, pH, temperature time) were optimised using one-factor-at-a-time assay. cytotoxicity assessed on human colorectal adenocarcinoma cells (Caco2) tetrazolium-based colorimetric method. ability reduce biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) chemical (COD) evaluated Jar test. as Bacillus subtilis CSM5 maximum flocculating activity 92% observed when fructose urea nutrients adjusted 30 °C, pH 9, 160 rpm 72 h incubation. Caco2 exhibited 90% viability highest concentration 200 µg/µL used. reduction BOD COD achieved at 59 ± 3.1 75 0.4%, respectively. conclusion, B. is a good candidate for production potential use
